Welcome to St. Anthony's Mangere Bridge Parish
TALOFA LAVA, FAKALOFA LAHI ATU, KIA ORA, MALO E LELEI, KIA ORANA. WELCOME ALL.
Greetings! The readings this Sunday all speak of the need for faith. There are some very worrying developments in our world: wars and conflicts continue in the Ukraine, increased tension between the US and China, the decline of religion, the lack of morality, increasing violence and crime. We have global problems of famine and poverty, debt and disease, underdevelopment and the population explosion. Covid continues to affect us all. Inflation and interest rates make life harder for many. We can take all this and more on our shoulders, including our own guilt and sin, and feel completely and utterly inadequate faced with the enormity of our personal, communal, national and global problems.
Given our situation, Jesus' opening words in this Sunday's gospel can strengthen us: “There is no need to be afraid little flock.” We will never see a perfect world in our lifetime but, like Abraham, we can still journey in faith, trusting in God's promise, trusting that God's kingdom will come. With faith, we can see that the Master is already here and he comes to serve us, here and now, with his own body and blood as food and drink for our journey in faith.
Fr Rivan and myself will be away for the Diocese Clergy Assembly and meetings from Monday-Friday. In our absence Fr Roy will be celebrating daily masses during the week.
